 Professional Membership

Professional members are required to obtain 4 CEU credits per year.

Certified Professional Building Designer membership have met the requirements and received a certification from the National Council of Building Designer Certification and devotes 50% or more of their working time to the profession of building design.

Professional Building Designer membership requires being engaged in the professional practice of building design for at least 5 years and devotes 50% or more of their working time to the profession of building design. Up to 2 years of related education may be substituted for equal amount of experience. (Plan review is required and must meet minimum plan standards established by AIBD.)

Retired membership is for professional AIBD members who have retired from the practice of building design. CEUs are not required of retired members


General Membership

General members are not required (but are encouraged) to participate in the CEU program.

Building Designer membership requires being engaged in the professional practice of building design for at least four years as a Drafting Technician, Design Intern or self-employed as a building designer and devotes 50% or more of their working time to the profession of building design. Up to two years of related education may be substituted for equal amount of experience. (Plan review is required, but need not meet minimum plan standards.)

Design Intern membership requires being engaged as a drafting technician, CAD operator or design intern for at least two years and devotes 50% or more of their working time as a drafting technician, CAD operator or design intern for a professional building designer or architect or has graduated from a post secondary school in architecture or drafting technology at an accredited university, college, vocational or correspondence school. (Plan review is not required)

Drafting Technician membership requires being engaged in the practice of building design as a drafting technician, CAD operator, architectural renderer or design intern who does not meet the requirements for higher levels of membership. (Plan review is not required)

Design Student membership consists of students participation in courses of instruction in

architecture, engineering, architectural drafting or design technology at a university, college, vocational school or an individual participating in on-the-job training.


 

Allied Membership

Corporate membership consists of businesses, firms, or corporations whose interests are related to the building design profession and supports the goals of AIBD.

Affiliate membership consists of professional or industry organizations whose interests are related or similar to those of AIBD.

Associate membership consists of an individual or firm whose business interest is related to the building design profession whose interests are local in nature.

Educator membership is for instructors of subjects pertinent to the profession of building design.
